Empowering Managers for Workplace Wellbeing

The workplace is increasingly recognised as a vital setting for promoting positive mental health and respect among workers and communities. SIGNal is a self-paced, online leadership development program that empowers line and middle managers to create and sustain healthy and inclusive work environments. As a leader, you have a direct impact on how work is delivered, shaping your team’s experience, workload and ability to thrive at work.

SIGNal stands for ‘Supportive, Inclusive, Growth-oriented, New active leadership’. The program delivers practical tools for leaders to develop and refine relational leadership competencies. Using these tools can help reduce social harm, manage psychosocial risks, and strengthen team performance and connection.

Core Competency Modules

SIGNal focuses on building your capabilities across four essential leadership areas:

  • Supportive Leadership: Developing skills to provide both emotional and practical support to team members.
  • Inclusive Leadership: Fostering a culture of belonging and respect while encouraging diverse perspectives.
  • Growth-Oriented Leadership: Promoting continuous learning, development, and performance improvement.
  • New Leadership: Exploring modern approaches, including leading flexible and hybrid teams and adapting to evolving work environments.

Why SIGNal is Essential for Modern Managers

This program provides a strategic advantage for both leaders and their organisations by:

  • Reducing organisational strain: Lowering rates of absenteeism, stress-related leave, and compensation claims.
  • Strengthening culture: Enhancing the employee value proposition by fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Creating balanced work environments: Improving staff performance and retention.
  • Driving economic impact: Contributing to a healthier, more productive Western Australian economy.

Flexible Learning

Advancement across the four competency modules is achieved through a combination of online training and self-learning activities, case studies, multi-media resources, and assessment of a capability maturity model. You will engage with the SIGNal Capability Maturity Model (SIGNal CMM) throughout the program as a mechanism for assessing where you feel you sit on the maturity ladder for each of the four SIGNal relational leadership elements. This process will help guide your own development as you move through the program, at your own pace.
