Celebrating the next generation of leaders in Tourism and Hospitality

In March, the latest cohort of aspiring leaders completed the Tourism WA Future Leaders Program, culminating in a celebratory Sundowner with industry employers and ECU academics.

Over the last 2 years, Tourism WA in partnership with ECU Executive Education, has delivered this fully subsidised Program to 62 participants across the Tourism and Hospitality sector, including 24 from regional WA.

Since 2024, the state government has invested $200,000 through Tourism WA’s Workforce Development Program to deliver the industry-informed initiative which retains, develops and strengthens the industry’s workforce, who are vital to growing the State’s visitor economy.

The four-day intensive masterclass program focuses on practical management capabilities, team leadership and self-reflective growth. Through executive learning that included mentoring by industry leaders, participants build skills in decision making, communication, stakeholder engagement, change management, performance benchmarking and team leadership.

For those considering further study, an academic pathway was made available. This made individuals eligible for Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning (CRPL)  into a number of degrees within ECU’s School of Business and Law – a valuable step toward future tertiary qualifications to boost their career prospects.

Participants have represented a broad cross-section of the industry, including accommodation providers, tour operators, attractions, visitor centres, hospitality venues and major resorts.

At the conclusion of the program, employers from the sector joined with ECU and TWA to celebrate the participants and the success of the Future Leaders Program.
