Edith Cowan University’s School of Business and Law, in partnership with the Leo Cussen Centre for Law, successfully hosted an inspiring panel discussion exploring the diverse career paths available to law graduates beyond traditional legal practice.

Held at the ECU Council Chambers, the event brought together five dynamic panellists who shared personal stories and professional insights, demonstrating how legal expertise can be a powerful asset across a wide range of industries. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of how a law degree can unlock opportunities in sectors such as management consulting, governance, loss adjusting, and strata management.

The evening was headlined by The Honourable Justice Jennifer (Jenni) Mary Hill, Judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Justice Hill’s keynote address highlighted the evolving nature of legal work and the importance of adaptability and lifelong learning.

The panel featured:

  • Alex Giannopoulos, Industry Engagement and Careers Manager at Leo Cussen, who shared insights from his 16 years in legal practice and recruitment.
  • Nuala Leyton, Managing Director of a strata management company, who discussed the value of legal training in project and business leadership.
  • Tina Mihailova, a company secretary and law student, who emphasized the synergy between governance roles and legal education.
  • David Bazen, Chartered Loss Adjuster and Managing Director, who illustrated how legal knowledge enhances technical and investigative work.

The event drew a diverse audience of students, professionals, and academics, all eager to explore how legal qualifications can support career growth in non-traditional fields. Attendees left with renewed motivation and practical ideas for leveraging their legal skills in innovative ways.
